My Favorite Genres To Read

Updated: Jul 7, 2020

Here is my go to list of genres to read.

ree

Have you ever sat around and wondered what it is you like to read? Why did you like to read it? If so, I was in the same boat as you at one time. Here are my favorite genres and why.

“I now believe it was because I didn't understand the true meaning of genres.”

Growing up as a teenager I loved being behind a good book. I probably started out with a good mystery book, but then my reading path lead me towards romance. Romance reading probably entered my life when I was 16 years old. I would search for just the right reads, but as time went on I found it harder to find books that interested me. Why was this? I now believe it was because I didn't understand the true meaning of #genres. I knew I loved a good romance, but I would just look for a good romance not realizing what I was missing. Romance books were a way for me to escape reality and fall in love with the characters I was reading about. So here are my most favorite genres other then romance.

Mystery

I absolutely am crazy for a good mystery book. Especially when you throw a steamy romantic chemistry into the mix. Mystery genre is just that. It's mysterious and gives you that dark feeling of not knowing what's going to happen next. It makes you think and keeps you on your toes throughout the whole entire story. This is also my favorite genre to write about and that's why I loved writing my book Truly Undercover. It has that mysterious feel, but with a nice steamy romance. This romantic mystery will be released soon after True Bliss as it's the 2nd book in the TRUE series.

Suspense

This genre is my next favorite. Who doesn't like some suspense in their life to get your adrenaline pumping. I like this genre because it can make the story full of those action scenes and the feeling of wanting more. When I read a suspense it keeps me on the edge of my seat and makes me love a book even more. This is why I loved writing Love In Quarantine. It's a suspenseful adventure that finds two characters thrown together. As their uncertain adventure moves on a romantic connection blossoms. Love In Quarantine will be COMING SOON.

Contemporary

This is a genre that confuses many people. It did for me at first until I realized it was a genre that I held close to my heart. It's those stories that are't just made up, but full of real life. Something you can connect to as a reader because you also may have went through the same situations as the characters in the story you're reading. It's quite incredible to read something that you can relate to and realize that you're not alone. These books are almost like true stories and I absolutely love that. True Devotion is a book I hold close to my heart. It's the third book in my TRUE series that has many scenes related to real life that many can relate to. It was a book that I could relate to as well. True Devotion will be released after Truly Undercover. So stay tuned for the complete TRUE series where emotions take over.

So there you have it! The genres that I love and hold close to my heart. The ones that I love to read. The ones that I can connect to the most and that's why I love to write them. Everyone is different though and has their own opinions. I know for me on my writing journey I'm going to try out different genres mixed in with romance because let's face it. I'm a die hard for a good romance. Besides that though you will see me try out paranormal and erotica. Those are the next on my list to dive into. So stay tuned and let me know what your favorite genres are? I would love to hear from you and get your thoughts.

I've never been a fan of fantasy. I've always tried to get into it by reading books or watching movies, but it just never clicks with me. Fantasy is loved by many though. It's something that can be created and the imagination takes over. Creating something eye catching to many and possibly the next big thing.

I'm glad you love a good mystery! It's my absolute favorite. You should dive into one when you get the chance next time. You may just see how much you've missed it.

Thanks for commenting about your favorite genre and interacting with me. Feel free to reach out whenever you need to.

What about fantasy? I won't recommend any, otherwise, you'll end up neck-deep in dwarves, wizards, and dragons. I do love a good mystery novel. It's been ages since I read one. Not so sure about contemporary, must be my tendency to weird stuff.
