"The Struggle Is Real" Writing Tips

"Do you have times where you feel stuck? Lost to find the words that feel like they will never come? Doomed to never finish your book and for it to be lost forever?"

Well, you’re not alone. Writing can be a struggle. We’ve all experienced it in different ways. Whether it be at the beginning, middle or end of your story. It can be a complete challenge between you and the paper or you and your computer screen. I’ve written four complete books up until now and the first seemed to come the easiest. I find as I go on the struggle between myself and the words seem to be the hardest part. I will have the story figured out. Knowing where I want it to go, but once I get down to writing, I sometimes feel completely and utterly stuck. The feeling is enough to make me almost not want to write, but knowing it’s in there. Needing that lift to carry me forward and get those words out. Here I have some tips that might help you get back on track:

  1. If you haven’t started your story yet and you’ve made yourself some starting notes on the side. Read them. Re-read them if you have too until something comes and sparks your creative mind.

  2. If you’ve already started and have some story down, go back a paragraph or chapter just to get yourself back into the feeling of your story. It helps give you that lift you need to move forward and the words to start flowing.

  3. Sometimes when you're stuck, you just need to get back into the feeling of your book. Find a book that’s relatable to yours and read it. It may help spark some creativity for your own writing.

  4. Sometimes you can get the feeling of wanting your book to be just right and it creates you to be at a stand still. Just remember, a story is never going to be just the way you want it until it’s completely finished and edited. In order to get there you need to write your heart out first. So don’t stress and let it go. Let those words flow because the book WILL end up being perfect in the end. Just like you envisioned it.

  5. Two words: Self Doubt. It’s something we all face as writers and we end up being our biggest enemy. If you're stuck because of self doubt you need to get back on to self rewarding. Read one of your books and see the potential you truly have. Lift yourself back up and know you can do it. Think back to why you started writing in the first place and what you wanted to accomplish. Remain positive and you WILL come back out on top. Self rewarding is so important and we as writers need to lift ourselves up, not tear ourselves down.

  6. If you're completely stuck and just right out of it. Relax. Don’t get angry, frustrated or upset with yourself. Just don’t write and give yourself some time to get back on track. As writer’s we have to remember to keep ourselves healthy and our minds ready to write that next chapter.

There you have it! I hope this can help someone just as much as it helps me when I have those moments of feeling completely lost. Comment below on what techniques you use as a writer, when writing becomes a struggle. It just might help someone go on to create something beautiful.
